2027 Chevy Bolt EV LT vs RS: Which Trim Is Right for You?

Identical powertrains, $4,000 price gap, and a real difference in styling. A trim-by-trim look from Webb Chevy Plainfield for Will County, Joliet, and Naperville buyers.

Quick Answer

The 2027 Bolt EV LT ($28,995) and RS ($32,995) share the exact same 210-hp electric motor, 65 kWh LFP battery, 255-mile range, and 150 kW DC fast charging. The RS adds unique grille badging, gloss-black wheels and roof rails, and an Atomic Yellow exterior with red interior accent stitching. If styling matters to you, pick RS. If you want to put the $4,000 toward packages or your home charger instead, pick LT.

What’s the same on both LT and RS

Start with what doesn’t change between the two trims, because it’s most of what makes the Bolt EV interesting. Both LT and RS run the same X76 single-motor electric drive unit putting out 210 horsepower and 169 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. Both pull energy from the same 65 kWh LFP battery pack. Both deliver a GM-estimated 255 miles of range. Both charge at up to 150 kW on DC fast charging and use the same native NACS port that plugs directly into Tesla Superchargers without an adapter.

Standard tech is identical too. The 11.3-inch Google built-in infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind zone alerts, rear cross-traffic braking, forward collision alerts, and Chevy’s Teen Driver mode all come standard on both trims. Available Super Cruise hands-free driving is also offered on both.

Charging port, battery chemistry, motor output, range, fast charge speed, standard tech, standard safety. All identical. The trim choice is genuinely about styling and a small number of optional packages.

What the RS adds

For $4,000 more, the RS trim is Chevy’s first sport-styling treatment of the Bolt EV. Visual changes only, but they’re meaningful. The RS gets a unique grille design with sport badging, 17-inch gloss-black painted aluminum wheels (LT runs 17-inch silver-painted aluminum), gloss-black roof rails, and an exclusive Atomic Yellow exterior paint option that’s not available on LT.

Inside, the RS adds red accent stitching as standard when paired with the Atomic Yellow exterior. The infotainment screen, gauge cluster, dashboard layout, and seat materials are otherwise the same as the LT.

Optional packages on both trims

Three optional packages can change the bottom-line price meaningfully on either trim:

  • Tech Package: Adds rear camera mirror, HD surround vision, traffic sign recognition. Most-asked-for option at our Plainfield store.
  • Comfort Package: Heated driver and front passenger seats plus heated steering wheel. Essential for Will County winters, roughly $1,000.
  • Super Cruise: Hands-free driving on over 750,000 miles of mapped roads in North America, including most major interstates around Plainfield. Roughly $2,200 with subscription required after trial period.
  • Dual-Panel Sunroof Package: Available on both trims, opens up the cabin meaningfully.
  • Wireless Phone Charging: Adds a wireless charging pad to the center console.

An RS loaded with Tech Package and a sunroof reaches about $35,685. An LT with the same options stays under $32,000.

From Our Plainfield Sales Floor

Most buyers at our Lincoln Highway location end up on an LT with the Comfort Package and Tech Package. That combo lands around $31,000 before incentives, which is exactly the price point that drew them to the Bolt EV in the first place. RS goes to buyers who specifically want the Atomic Yellow paint or the sport styling, which tends to be a younger demographic across Plainfield, Joliet, and Bolingbrook, or current sport-trim Chevy owners stepping into their first EV.

Verdict: who buys which

Buy the LT if you want the most affordable entry into the 2027 Bolt EV lineup, prefer to spend money on packages (Tech, Comfort, Super Cruise) rather than styling, or are stepping into your first EV and want to keep the budget tight.

Buy the RS if you specifically want the Atomic Yellow exterior, prefer gloss-black wheels and roof rails, or want the sport styling badge as part of the package. The performance is the same as LT, so the choice is genuinely about how the car looks parked in your driveway.

Frequently asked questions

Does the RS have more power than the LT?

No. Both LT and RS use the same X76 electric drive unit producing 210 horsepower and 169 lb-ft of torque. The RS is purely a styling trim.

Can I get the Atomic Yellow exterior on the LT?

No. Atomic Yellow is an RS-exclusive exterior color. The LT offers six other paint colors including Marina Blue Metallic, Habanero Orange, Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, Sterling Grey Metallic, and Relic Green Metallic.

Is the $4,000 RS premium worth it?

Depends on whether the styling matters to you specifically. Mechanically the trims are identical, so you’re paying $4,000 for unique grille badging, gloss-black wheels, gloss-black roof rails, and the Atomic Yellow paint option. For some buyers the styling alone justifies it. For others, $4,000 toward the Tech Package, Comfort Package, and a home charger is the better use of the money.

Do both trims qualify for the federal EV tax credit?

The 2027 Bolt EV may qualify for the federal Clean Vehicle Credit on both trims, subject to income limits and other eligibility requirements. Our finance team can run an eligibility check.

Can I add Super Cruise after purchase?

Super Cruise hardware needs to be specified at the time of order. You can activate or renew the subscription afterward, but the hardware can’t be retrofitted later, so order it from the start if you want it.
